Builders Assistant

BK Builders is a father and son building business that is based in Howick and has been in the homeowners building business for 17 years.

The business has expanded over the years and as a result there is a vacancy for a Builders Assistant.

Nature of the position

This is an entry level position and depending on the demonstrated skill and ability of the successful applicant the job has the potential to develop into a supervisory/junior management role.

The successful incumbent would be required to work a six-month probationary period with BK Builders after which the incumbent would be appointed on a permanent basis.

Work is building site based.

After a period of on-the-job training in typical tasks would include:

• Assist in setting out of new buildings based on approved plans
• Planning the sequence of building operations and ensuring that building materials are purchased timeously
• Liaising with and supervising sub-contractors such as wet work contractors’ plumbers, electricians, roofing contractors
• Supervising staff directly employed by the business
• Liaising with clients of the business
• Liaising with material suppliers
• Collect staff for work and returning them to a set meeting point.

Candidate Requirements

• Be practically and hands on inclined
• Be willing to learn the operations of a building business
• Be in possession of a valid driver’s license
