MILLWRIGHT – FACILITIES & UTILITIES

A large, established manufacturing operation based in Cato Ridge, KZN is looking to appoint an experienced Trade Tested Millwright to join its Facilities & Utilities Department.
This is a site-wide engineering role with responsibility for maintaining the utilities, facilities, infrastructure and associated mechanical and electrical systems required to keep a high-volume manufacturing operation running safely, reliably and efficiently.

We are looking for a strong all-round Millwright who is equally comfortable working across electrical and mechanical systems, boilers, pumps, buildings, facilities, fire systems and general utilities.

Importantly, this person must also be an excellent communicator who can train, coach and transfer technical knowledge to less experienced engineering employees and production teams.18

Key Responsibilities
– Planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance across facilities and utilities
– Inspect, maintain and repair electrical and mechanical systems, buildings, facilities and fixtures
– Maintenance and fault finding on boilers, pumps, gearboxes, pulley and belt systems
– Installation, modification and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment and fixtures
– Conduct preventative maintenance in accordance with OEM specifications and maintenance schedules
– Inspect and maintain mechanical and fire systems
– Respond rapidly to site-wide breakdowns and minimise operational downtime
– Conduct root cause analysis on failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
– Carry out legal and safety inspections and ensure compliance with relevant OHS, SABS and SANS requirements
– Ensure correct lockout, isolation and reinstatement procedures are followed
– Liaise with stores and suppliers regarding critical spares and equipment

Training & Knowledge Transfer
A key part of this role is the ability to develop others.
The successful Millwright will be expected to coach, mentor and train machine operators, machine minders, newly appointed engineering employees, supervisors and team leaders on machinery, equipment and sound maintenance practices. Millwright job discription
You therefore need to be a high-level communicator who can explain technical information clearly, practically and concisely to people with different levels of technical experience.

Minimum Requirements
– Recognised Millwright Trade Test Certificate
– 3-Phase Wireman’s Licence advantageous/preferred
– Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Millwright within an industrial or manufacturing environment
– Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capability
– Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings
– Familiarity with P&ID diagrams
– Industrial instrumentation experience
– Experience with boilers, pumps, gearboxes, pulley and belt systems
– Mechanical alignment experience
– Strong understanding of installation rules
– Refrigeration experience advantageous
– Fire systems experience advantageous
– Computer literate – MS Word, Excel and email
– Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
