Job Specifications
Shift Pattern: 4 Days On / 4 Days Off | 06:00 – 18:00
We are recruiting several experienced, high-calibre Millwrights for a large, established manufacturing operation based in Cato Ridge, KZN.
This is not simply a breakdown and maintenance role. We are looking for strong all-round Millwrights who are technically excellent, confident trouble-shooters and, importantly, strong communicators who can coach, train and mentor less experienced artisans and production employees.
You need to be the type of Millwright who can identify a problem, understand why it happened, fix it properly and then clearly explain the issue and solution to others.
What you will be responsible for
– Planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance across mechanical and electrical equipment.
– Fault finding and advanced troubleshooting on production and plant equipment.
– Conducting root cause analysis on equipment failures and implementing measures to prevent repeat breakdowns. Millwright job description
– Maintenance and fault finding on pumps, gearboxes, pulley and belt systems, boiler systems and industrial instrumentation.
– Reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings as well as P&ID diagrams.
– Mechanical alignment, equipment installation, modifications and repairs.
– Ensuring machinery and safety systems comply with required safety and operational standards.
– Completing job cards, maintenance reports, inspections and relevant technical documentation.
– Working closely with production, stores, planners and other technical teams.
– Training, coaching and mentoring junior or less experienced Millwrights, engineering staff and production employees. Millwright job description
– Sharing technical knowledge and helping to build capability within the broader maintenance and production teams.
What we are looking for
You must have:
– A recognised Millwright Trade Test Certificate.
– Minimum 5 years’ post-trade experience within an industrial/manufacturing environment.
– Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding ability.
– Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
– Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
– Knowledge of P&ID diagrams and industrial instrumentation.
– Experience with pumps, gearboxes, pulley and belt systems and similar industrial equipment.
– Strong understanding of preventative and breakdown maintenance.
– Good computer literacy, including email, MS Word and Excel.
– Reliable transport.
– Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
– The confidence and ability to train, coach and mentor less experienced technical employees. Millwright job discription
A 3-phase Wireman’s Licence would be highly advantageous. Refrigeration and/or fire systems experience will also be advantageous.
The person we want
We are specifically looking for mature, technically credible Millwrights who communicate exceptionally well.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of difficult technical problems, explaining technical information concisely, developing less experienced team members and maintaining a high standard of workmanship. This role requires someone who understands that being a senior artisan is not only about what you can fix, but also about how effectively you can transfer your knowledge to the people around you.
Working Hours
This position operates on a 12-hour shift system:
06:00 – 18:00 | 4 days on, 4 days off
Some overtime may occasionally be required, however this is expected to be limited.
